Vacancy – Machining Apprentice
Abbey Forged Products is the UK’s leading forge master in the oil & gas industry and have recently acquired accreditations for the Nuclear and Aerospace industries. With over 40 years’ experience in forging, Abbey are specialists in creating bespoke products using open die forging.
We have an opportunity for a Machining Apprentice, who aspires to learn and develop skills to become a competent highly skilled Machinist. They will learn to: –
- Set and operate Machines in a machine shop environment, learning manual and CNC lathes, vertical borers and Milling machines
- Select correct cutting feeds and speeds
- Select the correct cutting tools
- Understand and interpret engineering drawings
- CNC Programming and editing
- Work efficiently and effectively to production schedules, keeping Shift Supervisors informed of any potential issues or delays.
- Maintenance and care of tooling and keeping a tidy and organised work environment.
- Work within the confines of the Health & Safety / Quality Management Systems.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills, experience, and personal attributes:
- Good standard of education particularly in English and Maths to have the ability to enrol onto a Level 3 apprenticeship course.
- Qualification in Engineering would be advantageous
- Ambitious to learn and develop skills to become a competent Machinist
- Pride in their workmanship
- Methodical with a keen eye for detail
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good level of numeracy and literacy skills
- Flexibility in working hours
- Good attendance and punctuality
- Adheres to all Health and Safety / Quality standards
Whilst this role will initially be working permanent days, once at a competent level you would be required to work shifts of either mornings and afternoons, or mornings and nights.
