Vacancy – Heat Treatment Supervisor

Abbey Forged Products is the UK’s leading forge master in the oil & gas industry, and have recently acquired accreditations for the Nuclear and Aerospace industries.  With 40 years’ experience in forging, Abbey are specialists in creating bespoke products using open die methods.

We currently have an opening for the post of Heat Treatment Supervisor.  The main purpose of the role is to work alongside the Heat Treatment team and support and cover the Heat Treatment Manager, ensuring the function provides an efficient service to the Company.  The job holder will be responsible for operating in a Heat Treatment Operative capacity, Supervising and training the team, along with office-based administration duties.  The ideal candidate will have effective people management skills, proven experience of working within a Heat Treatment department, and a sound understanding of metals processing.

The main duties will include but are not limited to:-

  • Checking all relevant test pieces are processed to the next stage appropriately, double checking ID
  • Preparation of Heat Treatment charges, by means of manual handling, FLT and manipulator etc
  • Loading and unloading of furnaces
  • Setting and monitoring of furnace control instrumentation
  • Checking of product to the next stage to ensure compliance
  • Constructing Heat Treatment batches
  • Sorting work by date order/ materials that are capable of being treated together
  • Monitoring the witness calendar, ensuring work is within the department on time, and liaising with the Witness Inspectors
  • Construction of Heat Treatment charts
  • Day to day people management, including involvement in appraisals, training, health and safety issues.
  • Management of resources, ensuring appropriate cover in proportion with work levels
  • 6s Program
  • Internal Audits
  • Coordination of the TPM system and liaison with Engineers as appropriate
  • Effective communication and liaison with other departments within the business to ensure appropriate production timescales.
  • Attendance at meetings when required, such as Production and Management Meetings
  • Must be able to cover H/T Operative shifts when required

  • Ability to understand at times complex information
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team
  • Ability to train others
  • Assertiveness with excellent communications skills both written and verbal
  • Organised with a keen eye for detail/Quality focused
  • Pro-active and forward thinking
  • Good PC skills, particularly with Outlook, Word and Excel
  • FLT Driving licence
  • Flexible with regards to working pattern
