Chemical analysis testing

Established in September 2007 when Abbey Forged Products moved in to our current purpose built site, our independent UKAS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 approved test house boasts a wide range of accredited equipment capable of performing metallography, including but not restricted to grain size in accordance with ASTM E112-13,Inclusion content in accordance with ASTM E45-18a, volume fraction ASTM E562-11, Macro examination ASTM E381-17, API 6A718 2nd edition, Microstructure API 6A718 2nd edition & intermetallic phase detection to ASTM A923-14 Method A.

Chemical analysis testing of all metals including carbon, low alloy, stainless, duplex, super duplex and nickel-based alloys using spark source optical emission spectroscopy together with combustion technique with IR detection for Carbon & Sulphur and inert gas fusion techniques to detect Oxygen and Nitrogen.

Mechanical testing including elevated temperature tensile testing up to 700 degrees C ambient in accordance with ASTM A370-18, ASTM E21-17, ASTM E8/E8M-16a, BS EN ISO 6892-1-2016 & BS EN 60892-2-2018 (Method B)

Impact testing can be carried out at sub-zero temperatures up to -196 degrees C, including crystallinity shear & lateral expansion in accordance with BS EN ISO 148-1.2018, ASTM E23-18, ASTM A370-18 & ASTM A923-14 (Method B)

Hardness testing incorporating Brinell to BS EN ISO 6506-1.2014 & ASTM E10-18, Rockwell to BS EN ISO 6508-1.2016 & ASTM E18-19 & Vickers to BS EN ISO 6507-1.2018 & ASTM E92-17.

Corrosion testing including pitting corrosion to G48-11(2015 Method A), intergranular corrosion to ASTM A262-15 Practice E, ASTM G28-02(2015 Method A) & BS EN ISO 3651-2:1998 Method A, together with detrimental intermetallic phases on duplex steels to ASTM A923-14 Method C.

Metals Testing UK boast over 10 automatic band saws working 24 hours per day coupled with several machining centres allowing repetitive test sampling to be machined in a matter of minutes.

Utilising a bespoke computerised software system live tracking of testing progress allows up to the minute planning of production within the manufacturing process.

From time to time our customers demand less common testing requirements which are not within our own facility, and in order to offer a full and complete service we regularly work with a number of approved vendors who can suitably accommodate us. This is strategic, enabling us to call on their services during peak work flows but also so we can cover irregular and random testing demands. This provides our customers with a concise, efficient and complete response to their testing needs.
